Caledonian Forest in Autumn, Glen Lyon

Caledonian Forest in Autumn, Glen Lyon
Calling this road "single lane" would be a bit grandiose. But I remember the first couple of times I drove it, particularly from the distance heading closer, as it went through this line of Scots Pine - being somewhat entranced at the way the trees draped across the landscape like a fur coat down the hill into the bottom of the glen.

It took an excessive time to collate thoughts - life took me further west for a decade or more between visits - but eventually, on reading a small book on the distribution of Caledonian Forest around the Highlands, I saw mention of a large expanse of the forest in Glen Lyon - and with a bit of work on maps & streetview, I realised it was talking about the same stretch of road and forest I knew and wanted to revisit.

Now we have technology - from the drone, the glacial form of the bottom of the glen is even more apparent with psammite and semipelite showing through the glacial till/diamicton.

A splash of light on the distant hillside and remnants of a rainbow above it all just set it all off beautifully.
