M33, the Triangulum Galaxy

M33, the Triangulum Galaxy
A spiral galaxy located approximately 2.73 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation Triangulum, M33 aka the Triangulum Galaxy has a diameter of 18.74 kiloparsecs (61,100 light-years).

It forms the third galaxy in the Local Group - including the Milky Way and Andromeda of which the M33 is a satellite.

The Triangulum Galaxy is also notable for having an H II nucleus at its core.

Under exceptionally clear and dark conditions, some individuals with fully dark-adapted eyes can see the Triangulum Galaxy (apparent magnitude 5.6, effective visual magnitude 6.6) without the aid of telescopes or binoculars, making it the farthest permanent object visible without magnification.
