Sh2-142: The Wizard

Sh2-142: The Wizard
A well-known emission nebula in the constellation of Cepheus, discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787, Sh2-142 is an open star cluster about 20ly across located about 8.5kly away from the Sun in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way. At the centre of the cluster a binary pair of massive O-type stars (DH Cephei) are the ionizing source for the surrounding H.II region, driving out gas & dust and triggering star formation nearby.

This photo marks a couple of "records" for me: the longest gap I've had in the middle of a project; the least number of frames on a filter (Neodymium for the stars only, 30 minutes' data - that's all that was required); and the first time of using my new Askar C2 (OIII+SII) filter.

Suzi the 8" Skywatcher Quattro telescope; IDAS NBZ (Ha+OIII) nebula filter; Neodymium (light-pollution) filter; Askar C2 (OIII+SII) nebula filter. Stacked and processed in PixInsight and finished in Affinity.
